If you saw it, would you read it? If I Stay by Gayle Forman

About the front:
I don’t know what it was about this that caught my eye. Probably the blue and the high contrast with the white that resembles a tree. I really don’t know, but it’s eye catching that way. There is a simplicity and a harmony with the single remaining flower as if it’s the last one ever to be in existence. It’s just pretty and reminds me of the tree in front of my Mom and Dad’s house that flowers with a purply-red flower every spring, just like the one on the cover.

Now let’s look at what the back says:

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen year- old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck…

A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make -and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Does it match? Front to Back without the in between?
I love the opener, but it doesn’t tell me anything about the story! What comes of her watching her ‘own damaged body’? Is it literary fiction? A memoir? (That would be a unique one). Is it paranormal since she’s watching herself? The second paragraph only serves to give me the blurb-writer’s opinion on how good the book is. Tell me more about it and let me judge. What choices does she have to make? Is it to live or die? If it is, that might draw me in. Is it whether to tell a secret that she knows because of the accident? Is it that she’s been to heaven and back? I have no sense of where the story is going and thus I’m not sure, even after this cover caught my eye, that I will read it.

Where I’d read it
Not sure because I just don’t have a sense of what it’s about.
